Sunil Varkey receives recognition at Wipro - CSO Forum

In the IT and security circles, Sunil Varkey, VP & Chief Information Security Officer at Wipro Limited, is a well-known name. A veteran in the field, Varkey has spent over 23 years of leadership experience specialized in various domains of Information Security with large corporations in the Banking, Telecom, ITES and Manufacturing verticals. 

 

Last month, he received one of the highest honors given to a leader at Wipro Limited. Speaking to CSO Forum, Varkey said, Fellow is a unique title given to selected people in the organization based on the compliance and fulfillment of a well-defined internal framework at Wipro."

 

Varkey further explained that the Distinguished member of technical staff (DMTS) program is a framework devised to create the right platform for accelerating top technical talents at the enterprise level in the organization.

 

"Every applicant goes through very exhaustive and stringent process to get chosen for assessments in the areas of Thought leadership and Contribution to Innovation for Value Generation in terms of Execution, Expertise and Effectiveness for the qualification," he added.

 

The DMTS program has three levels that include Senior Member, Distinguished Member, and Fellow based on the fulfilment of criteria and contribution. Once qualified, the compliance as well as assessments are to be taken every year to sustain the title.

 

So what does it mean for his role as a CISO?

 

Varkey said that the recognition as 'Fellow' in Wipro’s Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) Program is a great honor and privilege. 

 

"It opens up a number of opportunities to think big and execute without boundaries. This program provides required resources and environmental support required to achieve the goals and objectives in an accelerated mode. The key priorities includes right capacity building, IP creation and programs based on predictability, among others," he added.
