The sequential growth in Q1 was lower as compared to Q4 of 2015
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), carved out of erstwhile top IT company, HP, less than a year back, is the top player in cloud infrastructure market, according to Synergy Research Q1 data. Interestingly, the top three cmpanies come from different backgrounds. HPE is followed by networking major Cisco at No 2 while Microsoft is at No 3.
The definition of cloud infrastructure category by Synergy Research include public cloud hardware, private cloud hardware and cloud software. While HPE and Ciso lead cloud public hardware market as No 1 and No 2 vendors, Microsft leads the software segment. HPE also leads in private cloud hardware market where it is followed at second position by Dell.
In terms of aggregate revenue across all the three sub segments, the top three are followed by Dell, IBM, EMC, VMware, Lenovo and Huawei
The total cloud infrastructure market has been growing at comfortably over 20% per year, though the growth rate dropped off to 13% in Q1 as a typically soft quarter followed the end-of-year Q4 peak.
For the last eight quarters total spend on data center infrastructure – which includes servers, server OS, storage, networking, network security and virtualization software – has been running at an average $29 billion, with the market being increasingly driven by the cloud. Cloud deployments or shipments of systems that are cloud enabled now account for well over half of the total data center infrastructure market, as per Synergy.
