Five from Maharashtra Feature in Third Smart City List

A third and final list of Smart Cities has been announced by the Minister of Urban Development, M. Venkaiah Naidu at New Delhi. Out of the 63 cities that took part, only 27 cities have been selected. The highest number of cities - a total of 5 - feature in the smart city list, are from the state of Maharashtra. The cities that made it to the third list of smart cities include –

 

  1. Agra, Uttar Pradesh
  2. Ajmer, Rajasthan
  3. Amritsar, Punjab
  4. Aurangabad, Maharashttra
  5. Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh
  6. Hubli-Dharwad, Karnataka
  7. Jalandhar, Punjab
  8. Kalyan-Dombivili, Maharashtra
  9. Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh
  10. Kohima, Nagaland
  11. Kota, Rajasthan
  12. Madurai, Tamil Nadu
  13. Mangaluru, Karnataka
  14. Nagpur, Maharashtra
  15. Nashik, Maharahstra
  16. Namchi, Sikkim
  17. Rourkela, Odisha
  18. Salem, Tamil Nadu
  19. Shivamogga, Karnataka
  20. Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh
  21. Tumakuru, Karnataka
  22. Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu
  23. Thane, Maharashtra
  24. Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
  25. Vadodara, Gujarat
  26. Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
  27. Vellore, Tamil Nadu

Till now, a total of 60 cities from 27 states and union territories have been selected by the urban development ministry. Other states and union territories that still await their turn include Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.
