Now Air-borne LTE operations available, in-flight calls to come soon

The technology has already completed its technical trials at various locations across America

You will no longer have to switch off your phone or cut-off internet services while onboard an aircraft. Your dream of using the internet anywhere and everywhere can now be realized now by the latest technology of ALO – Airborne LTE Operatiions initiative. In wake of internet of things (IoT), Verizon has been working on a fast speed internet connectivity mechanism that can provide internet connections to multiple devices at once, on flight in both manned and unmanned aircrafts via ALO.

4G LTE 700 MHz – a network safe for in-flight wireless connectivity, led to the creation of device and service requirements as part of ALO initiative, as per Verizon. ALO is result of two years of toil.

The technology has already completed its technical trials at various locations across America. As of now, this technology is being used as first response and emergency management personnel enhance disaster recover effort but by 2017, Verizon would provide ALO-enabled business applications backed by secure cloud and analytic capabilities. It is also working in collaboration with American Aerospace (AATI) and Sierra Wireless) for long-range aerial applications including command-and-control cellular network communications for long-distance flights.
