While 86% of remote workers clearly understand their company’s plan to survive the economic toll of COVID, almost half state they do not have clear, formalized communications around working hours, availability, and productivity
At the corporate level, over 85% of employees report they clearly understand their company’s plan to survive the economic toll of COVID pandemic. However, nearly half of these employees state their organizations have failed to provide clear communications and tools to do their jobs effectively, according to Wrike’s 2020 global remote work survey.
In response to the pandemic, organizations have had no choice but to close their offices and switch to a work-from-home model. However, six months since the wide-spread adoption of remote working began, many workers are still unsure as to what their employer expects of them.
Wrike’s global remote work survey reveals:
- 86% of the US, 89% of the UK, and 90% of Australian respondents report they have been briefed on their company’s future state of business and understand the overall plan to survive the economic toll of the pandemic
- 49% of the US respondents and 47% of the UK respondents report they do not clearly understand what is expected as they work remotely
- More than half of the respondents (52% in the US and 53% in the UK) have not been well-trained sufficiently to use the necessary work management platforms to create, manage, and execute work remotely productively
- Nearly half (47%) of Australian respondents have not fully implemented feedback processes to capture and improve processes for remote workers
Technology and Transparency: The Keys to Productivity
Remote employees are not receiving the proper amount of communications, and therefore do not fully understand what is expected of them. With employees not in the physical office, businesses need to find new ways to communicate with staff, making sure they are still setting expectations and being transparent. "With the current world situation, all of our team has been sent to work from home,” said Andrea Flores, Commercial Director, IURO. “It’s really important that we have the right balance of communications and technology to make sure our employees stay efficient.”
"We know that for at least the next nine months, we're going to be operating in this transition environment. Whatever model an organization lands on, visibility will be incredibly important. As the results of this survey reveal, the more you can do to track progress, stay connected, and provide everyone with a clear view of the bigger picture, the better.”
