Engineers at the Helm: Powering India’s Techade with Purpose and Innovation

Every year, on September 15, India celebrates Engineers’ Day in honor of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya — a visionary who demonstrated that engineering is not just about building bridges and dams, but also about shaping the future of nations. Today, as India stands at the cusp of what many call the “Techade,” the role of engineers has never been more vital. They are the catalysts who translate cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, semiconductors, and quantum computing, into real-world solutions that impact billions of lives. This Engineers’ Day, we explore how India’s engineering community is driving innovation, solving critical challenges, and positioning the nation as a global tech powerhouse.

Engineering the Future: From Deep Tech to Real Impact

“Fueled by recent breakthroughs in deep tech—like Agentic AI, autonomous AI agents, Edge AI, Generative AI, and intelligent automation—industries across the board are transforming at a speed many struggle to keep up with,” says Abhilash Shetty, VP & Head of Digital Engineering, Visionet Systems. He believes engineers are at the frontlines of this tectonic shift, turning disruptive technologies into simple, scalable solutions. Visionet’s philosophy of “Engineering Simplified” underscores the importance of making innovation accessible, efficient, and secure.

Prasenjit Ghoshal, Head of Engineering at Ennoventure, agrees, highlighting that engineers today are not just technical experts but change-makers. From fighting counterfeiting with AI and cryptography to designing sustainable cities, their work goes beyond problem-solving to creating safer, more inclusive futures.

India’s Engineers as Global Innovators

“India is fast emerging as the front office for technology and innovation-driven expansion,” says Sajith Nambiar, Head of Solutions, UST. He credits India’s engineers for infusing cross-disciplinary thinking—from healthcare dashboards to quantum-powered data science—making them unique contributors to global innovation.

This sentiment is echoed by Raja Manickam, Founder & CEO of iVP Semi, who sees semiconductors as India’s next big opportunity. “As chips are the ‘digital diamonds’ of the tech economy, engineers will be key in building the country’s semiconductor ecosystem, which is expected to need 250,000 to 300,000 skilled professionals by 2027,” he notes.

Driving the Next Wave of Global Breakthroughs

At Automation Anywhere, nearly 60% of the global talent sits in India. “Our India-based engineering teams are not only innovating but also accelerating the world’s shift to the Autonomous Enterprise,” says Dominic Pereira, VP of Product Management.

Cybersecurity, too, remains a key area where engineers are making a difference. Sunil Sharma of Sophos praises their role in building adaptive and sustainable security systems in an increasingly threat-prone digital world.

Celebrating Purpose-Driven Innovation

For Ridhima Sawant of Orient Technologies, Engineers’ Day is about enabling brilliance to grow into leadership. At the same time, Bhaskar Gandavabi of Fulcrum Digital calls it a reminder to design with purpose, touching the lives of billions through sustainable and resilient systems.

This Engineers’ Day, the message is clear: India’s engineers are not just solving problems—they are shaping the nation’s destiny. By fusing creativity with science, and purpose with progress, they are laying the foundation for a future where India leads the global tech narrative.
