Dun & Bradstreet India Study Finds Businesses Must Fix Their Data Now to Realize AI Returns

Dun & Bradstreet India, a global leader in business decisioning data and analytics, has released a new whitepaper, The Adoption Advantage: Why Trusted Data, Not the Next Model, Will Determine Enterprise AI Returns. It underscores the competitive advantage in artificial intelligence is shifting from access to increasingly capable models to the ability to successfully deploy AI using trusted, governed, and connected enterprise data.

The whitepaper examines how major technologies historically transition from performance-led competition to adoption-led value creation once they become “good enough” for mainstream use. According to research, AI is entering a similar phase, where for many business applications, incremental improvements in model capabilities matter less than an organization’s ability to integrate AI into workflows, establish governance frameworks, and build a trusted data foundation.

The whitepaper highlights that while the race to build better AI models continue, businesses are increasingly being constrained not by technology availability, but by organizational readiness. The findings suggest that companies delaying AI deployment while waiting for the next generation of models, risk falling behind competitors that are already building institutional knowledge, operational workflows, and data capabilities around existing AI technologies.

Research Findings:

  1. The Dun & Bradstreet Q3 2026 AI Momentum Survey found that only about 4% of Indian businesses report their data as fully ready for AI at scale, highlighting data readiness as a key barrier to enterprise-wide adoption.
  2. The competitive advantage in AI is increasingly shifting from model access to data quality, workflow integration, governance, and organizational learning.
  3. Organizations that delay deployment while waiting for the next model risk missing the operational learning and experience that drive long-term returns from AI investments.
  4. Trusted, verified, interconnected, and governed data is emerging as the foundation for scaling AI from experimentation to enterprise-wide decision-making.

“The next phase of AI leadership will not be defined by better models, but by better adoption,” said Julian Prower, Executive Vice President, Global Business Operations & Transformation and Managing Director & CEO, India & Taiwan, Dun & Bradstreet. “As AI becomes more accessible, organizations that combine trusted data, strong governance, and workflow integration will be best positioned to realize value at scale. The real opportunity is no longer in accessing AI, but in operationalizing it.”

As AI becomes more accessible and capable, competitive advantage is increasingly being defined by how effectively organizations deploy and scale AI across their operations, rather than by access to the latest models. Businesses with trusted data, strong governance frameworks, and AI integrated into core workflows are better positioned to generate meaningful returns and realize value from their AI investments.

Trusted data remains the foundation of successful AI outcomes. While AI governance helps ensure responsible deployment, data governance ensures that the information powering AI systems is accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose. As AI adoption expands across customer engagement, procurement, risk management, compliance, and decision-making, organizations that invest in data readiness and operational adoption will be better equipped to unlock sustainable value from AI at scale.
