ICICI Lombard has upgraded its disaster recovery system in partnership with AWS, ensuring faster recovery and uninterrupted services. The fully automated, cloud-based setup enhances business resilience and customer trust.

ICICI Lombard, one of India’s leading private general insurance companies, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to upgrade its disaster recovery (DR) system. The new setup, which shifts operations from the AWS Asia-Pacific (Mumbai) Region to the AWS Asia-Pacific (Hyderabad) Region, is fully automated and cloud-native. This upgrade covers all critical business applications and ensures that services remain available even during unexpected disruptions.
With the rise in climate-related and technological disruptions, ICICI Lombard has taken steps to improve its ability to respond quickly and effectively to any operational challenges. The new DR setup allows the company to switch to its backup systems with little to no manual effort, ensuring faster recovery and minimal downtime. The transition was carried out swiftly using real-time validation and automation tools.
Girish Nayak, Chief – Technology, Health UW and Claims at ICICI Lombard, highlighted the success of their full-site DR drill, calling it a key milestone in their digital resilience journey. “This was more than a technology test — it showed our ability to continue operations smoothly during any disruption,” he said. Nayak emphasized that this move supports the company’s focus on regulatory compliance, customer trust, and seamless service delivery.
Kiran Jagannath, Head of FSI and Conglomerates at AWS India and South Asia, shared that AWS is proud to support ICICI Lombard in protecting its core systems. The setup uses AWS tools like Elastic Disaster Recovery, AWS Step Functions, and infrastructure-as-code for smooth, secure data replication and fast environment switching.
ICICI Lombard has been a pioneer in cloud adoption in the insurance sector. Over the years, it has moved key platforms such as policy issuance and claims to the cloud and introduced AI-driven features like the face scan in its IL TakeCare app. This latest upgrade to its DR setup continues that path, reinforcing its focus on technology, reliability, and uninterrupted service for its customers.
