TRAI has released the subscriber data for the month of April 2026. Continuing the positive momentum seen since February 2026, Vi added 53,257 subscribers in April 2026, taking its total subscriber base to 19,85,38,052 representing a significant section of the country’s mobile telephony users. The company had earlier reported net subscriber additions of 21,927 subscribers in February 2026 and 1,02,899 subscribers in March 2026.
Vi witnessed subscriber additions across nine circles, including Assam (added 4488), Bihar (added 17192), Delhi (added 94300), Gujarat (added 170343), HP (added 3176), J&K (added 4399), North East (added 847), Odisha (added 12780) and Punjab (7996). Vi also added 3,35,148 rural subscribers across the country in April.
The continued subscriber additions are in line with Vi’s focus on attracting quality customers through sustained network investments and differentiated product offerings. During the Q4FY26 earnings call, while highlighting improvements in all key performance metrics CEO Abhijit Kishore noted ‘…Gains from the capex investments and network rollout are now clearly visible’.
Reflecting the impact of these investments, Vi recorded highest ARPU growth percentage in the industry, with customer ARPU increasing 8.3% YoY to Rs. 190 in Q4FY26. The growth in ARPU stems from continued network investment and increased adoption of differentiated product offerings. Since its successful FPO in Q1 FY25, Vi has invested over Rs. 16,000 crore towards network enhancement and plans to invest another Rs. 45,000 crore over the next three years. Vi has added more than 70,000 broadband sites increasing its broadband site count to 5,66,376 in FY26 while tower count grew to more than 2 lakh towers. Vi currently covers 86% of India’s population and expects to increase coverage by another 125 million population over the next 12-18 months through deployment of an additional 60,000-70,000 sites.
Vi CEO highlighted in the earnings call that the improving subscriber trend is closely linked to stronger 4G coverage and expanding 5G presence across markets. In line with his comment, Vi reported a significant YoY increase of 2.5 Million 4G/5G subscribers to 128.9 million. Vi postpaid subscriber base also grew by 17.58% to 30.1 million in FY26, and today has the highest postpaid base in the industry.
Vi’s average data usage per user grew by over 27% to 20.20 GB in Q4FY26, while total data traffic on the network increased by 30% to 7.8 billion GB. Indicating rising customer engagement and stickiness, Vi’s ‘Non-Stop Hero’ proposition offering full-day unlimited 4G and 5G data benefits has witnessed over 25% sequential growth over the last three quarters.
With improvements in key performance metrics, significantly reduced debt, along with the recently announced AGR relief and promoter’s commitment, Vi has drawn up a financial roadmap of Rs. 1 trillion towards planned capex investments, spectrum obligations and long-term operational requirements over the next three years. This is expected to provide the telco greater flexibility to accelerate network investments and long-term growth plans.
