Shoonya Introduces Corporate Bonds to Strengthen Fixed-Income Options for Investors

Shoonya, the multi-asset investment and trading platform by Finvasia, is set to expand its investment offerings with the launch of corporate bonds, giving investors another avenue to diversify their fixed-income portfolios beyond traditional investment options. Investors will be able to browse, compare and invest in corporate bonds across various issuers on Shoonya.

The launch follows the Exchange’s grant of Online Bond Platform Provider (OBPP) approval to Shoonya, effective 22 October 2026. The approval marks an important step in the platform’s expansion into the digital bond investment space, enabling it to facilitate access to eligible corporate bond offerings through its online platform.

For fintech platforms, OBPP approval provides a framework to facilitate online access to eligible debt securities, making it easier for investors to discover and evaluate bond investment opportunities digitally. It also brings the platform within the applicable exchange framework for online bond distribution, supporting the expansion of investment options beyond traditional asset classes.

Corporate bonds are debt instruments through which companies borrow money from investors. When an investor buys a bond, they lend money to the issuer, who agrees to make payments as per the bond terms and repay the principal as scheduled. Unlike buying shares, investing in a corporate bond does not give the investor ownership in the company.

With minimum investment starting from Rs 100, investors can explore corporate bonds with pre-tax YTM (Yield to Maturity) of up to 14%, where applicable and as specified for each bond. The bonds, with maturities ranging from 6 months to 3 years , may offer different payment structures, with interest paid monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or at other intervals specified in the bond terms.

Eligible listed bonds may also be sold in the secondary market before maturity, subject to market liquidity and the availability of buyers. The price at which an investor sells a bond before maturity may differ from the purchase price, potentially resulting in a gain or loss.

“Investors today are looking for a wider range of investment opportunities to build and diversify their portfolios. Corporate bonds offer another avenue to explore fixed-income investments, while allowing investors to evaluate opportunities based on their individual financial goals, risk appetite and investment horizon. Our aim is to make these investment options more accessible and help investors make informed decisions,” said Sarvjeet Singh Virk, CoFounder and MD, Shoonya by Finvasia.

Through the new offering, investors will be able to explore eligible corporate bonds on the platform and evaluate investment opportunities based on parameters such as YTM, tenure, coupon payments, credit ratings, and whether a bond is secured or unsecured.

Shoonya aims to help investors understand bond-related information clearly. The coupon rate is the interest rate paid on a bond’s face value, while the YTM is the estimated  yield an investor may earn if the bond is bought at the given price and held to maturity, assuming all scheduled payments are made.

Credit ratings, assigned by agencies, are a key factor to review before investing. Ratings range from AAA to D, and generally, assessed credit risk increases as ratings move down the scale. A high rating does not guarantee repayment, and ratings can change during a bond’s tenure. Similarly, a secured bond is backed by specified assets but is not risk-free. Investors are encouraged to review the relevant bond documents, credit ratings, payment terms and associated risks before investing.
