Cloud Platforms are Powering India’s GenAI Revolution: Transforming Enterprises, SMBs, and Governance

In the last couple of years, Generative AI (GenAI) has been driving cloud investments across organizations, transforming the digital landscape even further.  According to Markets and Markets, the global GenAI market is estimated to surge from USD 71.36 billion in 2025 to USD 890.59 billion by 2032, exhibiting a CAGR of 43.4% during the forecast period. 

The major driver for this exponential growth of GenAI is the cloud-based GPU as a service that enables businesses to access Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).  In India, too, the GenAI sector is expected to grow rapidly over the next 5 years, creating a surge in demand for data centers, according to a report by ANAROCK. The market size of GenAI in the country is projected to grow from USD 1.1 billion in 2025 to USD 6.4 billion in 2030, expanding at a CAGR of 43%.  GenAI is emerging as a key driver of innovation and productivity, offering organizations opportunities that have never been available before across sectors in India.

Cloud platforms drive GenAI success

Leading cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) are now offering powerful tools that enable organizations to build and implement GenAI models at scale. With GenAI algorithms requiring large amounts of computing power and resources to generate and process vast volumes of data to train large models, the cloud is undoubtedly the backbone of GenAI.  With cloud platforms, enterprises can effortlessly scale up or down their computing resources to suit their changing workloads.

They have scalable and on-demand infrastructures that are best suited for GenAI needs.  Organizations can leverage the GenAI model to develop innovative applications by leveraging cloud platforms without CAPEX investments on infrastructure. 

Cloud platforms also offer pre-trained models and APIs that democratize access to advanced AI capabilities by integrating GenAI solutions into the organization’s operations.  Being collaborative, cloud platforms can provide a unified environment that can enable the sharing of data and models, facilitating collaboration among organizations, researchers, and developers to accelerate innovation with GenAI technologies.

GenAI adoption is seen in India’s large enterprises, such as the IT Services, Financial Services, Healthcare, Retail, Education, and Logistics sectors, where they are witnessing unprecedented transformation.  Today’s business landscape, which requires ongoing technological evolution, can leverage GenAI and efficiently meet the evolving market requirements. 

With the elasticity presented by the cloud, organizations can train and fine-tune GenAI models with the available huge volumes of industry data and deploy the models at scale across thousands of users.  The recently released IDC InfoBrief, commissioned by Quik and sponsored by AWS, reveals India is emerging as a global AI powerhouse, the highest in APAC, with 36% of enterprises using AI and 46% planning investments within 12-24 months, emphasizing our commitment to nurturing AI-enabled automation and innovation.  India also leads ASEAN in public cloud adoption, with 40% of enterprises leveraging one or more public ds and 30% of organizations preferring a hybrid model as they see cloud adoption critical to GenAI’s success.

These models help in automating operations, redefining customer services by providing hyper-personalized customer support, operational efficiency, and providing insights from data in real-time for quick decision-making.

GenAI helps democratize SMB growth.

India’s vast Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) sector is benefiting from cloud-driven GenAI, which is easily accessible, enabling them to compete worldwide. This convergence of cloud computing and GenAI eliminates the gap that exists between India’s large enterprises and SMBs, with the latter also leveraging intelligent automation and innovation-enabling features now available to them. 

The pay-as-you-go pricing model by cloud platforms and the API-based access to GenAI tools enable SMBs to integrate automated customer support, business analytics, content creation, and document summarization into their workflows. This removes the need for large in-house IT teams or infrastructure.  GenAI has helped SMBs enhance their workforce productivity and reduce operational costs by streamlining business operations and improving customer engagement, enabling them to achieve sustainable growth. By leveraging GenAI, technical expertise is no longer a challenge, and informed decision-making is made possible across all levels of the organization.

Public sector operations revolutionized by GenAI

India’s government and public sector are leveraging GenAI through cloud platforms to drive data-driven decision-making, enhance operational efficiency, and improve citizen engagement through hassle-free access to government services. Various government departments and functions are expected to be impacted by GenAI. This technology is transforming public governance in the delivery of more accessible, inclusive, and intelligent public services and overall citizen experience. GenAI is poised to fine-tune policy analysis, bringing in more transparency, with operations getting streamlined and several tasks automated in the public sector. 

Delivering a personalized experience to citizens is also made possible with this technology, making the government more efficient and responsive.  The Government of India is committed to the adoption of AI.  The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of India is implementing the National Program on Artificial Intelligence. The goal is to prioritize inclusion, creativity, and adoption for social impact to actualize the India AI vision. The four pillars under the Program include the National Center on AI, Data Management Office, Skilling of AI, and Responsible AI. GenAI models in healthcare systems, emergency response systems, energy and environmental management, and predictive policing are already driving social progress, new economic growth, and further innovation.

Responsible GenAI Governance Framework is crucial

Though GenAI is transforming all sectors, unlocking new opportunities and driving innovation, it throws some challenges related to data privacy, fairness, bias, and IP protection. Organizations must gain trust by building a robust governance framework to mitigate risks associated with GenAI.

India’s growing businesses, the large pool of tech talent, proactive government policies, and responsible GenAI governance framework are set to fuel the GenAI implementations that are powered by Cloud platforms, redesigning India’s digital future.
