Neo4j acquires GraphAware to challenge Palantir in intelligence analysis market

AI/ML to be the most critical tech skill that Indian organizations plan to acquire in the next six months: IDC

Neo4j has announced an agreement to acquire GraphAware, a company specializing in intelligence analysis software for government agencies. The deal aims to create an open-standards alternative to Palantir Gotham, combining graph technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to help organizations analyze complex data while maintaining control over their information and deployment environments.

The company said the acquisition will support the development of AI-powered graph solutions designed for intelligence analysis, investigations, and decision-making across government and defense sectors. The initiative forms part of Neo4j’s previously announced $100 million investment roadmap focused on AI innovation.

According to Neo4j, the combined offering will provide government agencies with an alternative to Palantir Gotham while emphasizing open standards, modular architecture, and data sovereignty.

Focus on open standards and data sovereignty

The announcement comes as governments worldwide face increasing pressure to manage sensitive data securely amid rising geopolitical tensions and rapid advances in AI.

Neo4j argues that intelligence organizations require greater control over where data is stored, how it is accessed, and how AI systems interact with it. The company said proprietary systems can limit flexibility, while open architectures provide more control over deployments and future technology choices.

By integrating GraphAware’s capabilities into the Neo4j platform, customers will be able to conduct collaborative investigations and generate explainable intelligence from connected datasets while retaining ownership of their data.

Emil Eifrem, Founder and CEO of Neo4j, said, “For over a decade, governments have utilized intelligence analysis software from Palantir. Now they will have a legitimate choice with GraphAware Hume, powered by the Neo4j graph intelligence platform.”

He added that the company is acquiring a solution already used by government agencies globally and built on open-standards technology.

GraphAware Hume targets mission-critical environments

GraphAware Hume is designed to help analysts work with fragmented and complex information. The platform connects data from multiple sources, enabling users to identify relationships, build contextual understanding, and collaborate across teams.

The software is aimed at law enforcement agencies, defense organizations, and tax authorities that require intelligence-driven investigations and decision support.

Michal Bachman, Founder and CEO of GraphAware, described the acquisition as a natural next step following a decade-long partnership between the two companies.

“The future of intelligence analysis is undeniably graph-powered and AI-assisted,” Bachman said.

Existing deployments highlight real-world use cases

Neo4j highlighted several organizations already using Neo4j and GraphAware Hume in operational environments.

The Western Australia Police Force uses the technology to combine data from multiple systems, helping investigators uncover connections and reduce analysis times from hours to seconds.

In the United States, the Department of Defense uses Neo4j and GraphAware Hume on a Defense Department IL5 network hosted within the U.S. Air Force’s Cloud One environment to support mission-critical analytics.

A European national cyber defense agency also relies on the platform to identify and understand threats affecting critical infrastructure and organizations.

Other listed customers include the European Commission, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and U.S. Department of Defense Platform One.

Growing demand for graph intelligence

Neo4j said demand for graph intelligence solutions has accelerated, with the company reporting a fourfold increase in customers addressing AI-ready data challenges. Many of these deployments have already moved into production environments.

The company also noted that its AI startup program now includes more than 700 registered companies.
