Google to kick of US $15 billion data centre project in Andhra Pradesh

Google will formally begin construction on its US $15 billion data centre hub in Andhra Pradesh on April 28, 2026. This project is the largest single foreign direct investment in India to date. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.

The project follows a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) signed between the tech company and the state government on October 14, 2025. Raiden Infotech India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Google, is managing the development. The company has partnered with Adani Infra (India) Limited to build the infrastructure across three separate campuses near Visakhapatnam.

Project specifications

The data centre hub will have a total power capacity of 1 gigawatt. The state government allocated approximately 601 acres of land across three sites to accommodate the scale of the facility:

  • Tarluvada: 266.6 acres
  • Rambilli: 174.8 acres
  • Adavivaram and Mudasarlova: 160 acres

The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation approved these land transfers specifically for artificial intelligence-powered data centres.

Connectivity and infrastructure

The hub will serve as a central node for international data traffic. It includes the installation of three high-capacity submarine cables and dedicated cable landing stations. These subsea links will connect Visakhapatnam directly to Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and 12 other countries.

To support the facility, the project involves building high-capacity metro fibre lines and dedicated telecommunications infrastructure. Google plans to commission these three centres by July 2028. Once operational, the Visakhapatnam cluster is expected to be the largest data centre complex in Asia.

Strategic implementation

Google currently operates data centres in 11 countries, including the United States, Singapore, and Japan. This Indian expansion focuses on supporting AI workloads and digital services. The project uses three Special Purpose Vehicles owned by Adani Infra Limited to handle the specific requirements of each campus.

The Rambilli campus will eventually transfer to Nxtra Data, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, while the Tarluvada and Adavivaram sites will remain under the development of AdaniConneX. This collaboration between global tech and local infrastructure firms aims to complete the first phase of the rollout within the next two years.
